Dr Wolde Mekuria is a senior researcher in Environment and Development at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). He has over 25 years of experience as a researcher, academician, and development worker in landscape restoration, climate change adaptation, soil science, and natural resources management. He has worked on research projects in Africa and Asia. In recent years, his research has focused on investigating the contributions of nature-based and other solutions to restore degraded ecosystems and ecosystem services, improve agricultural productivity and livelihood diversification, increase climate change adaptation and mitigation, and address the vulnerability of local communities due to natural hazards such as drought and floods. Wolde is experienced in working with diverse partners, individuals, and groups from different cultures and professional backgrounds. He is also experienced in fundraising, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation of projects, and supervising students. Wolde has an excellent record of relevant peer-reviewed articles covering biophysical, social, economic, and hydrological issues in managing land and water resources. Wolde has contributed much to sustainable landscape management in Africa and agricultural land management in Southeast Asia by generating science-based evidence
