Virginia Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Middlebury College and earned her PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her research focuses on social and emotional development throughout the lifespan, with a focus on the role of solitude in identity, emotion regulation, and psychological well-being. Her research findings have led her to develop the program Embracing Solitude, which helps individuals increase their capacity to be alone and reap the benefits. She is currently writing a book on solitude skills and the art of being alone.
