Ulf Engel

In addition to my teaching position at Leipzig, I am a visiting professor at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and a professor extraordinary in the Department of Political Science at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). Since 2006 I have been an adviser to the AU Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security on early warning, conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy, and knowledge management (funded through GIZ). I am also the editor of the Yearbook on the African Union (published with Brill's since 2021).

My research interests include international and regional organisations, German African policy, and political developments in South and Southern Africa, Ethiopia, and the Horn of Africa. My most recent research project is the network of African non-military conflict intervention practices (ANCIP).
