Toby Le completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) with an Honors Specialization in Microbiology and Immunology at Western University of Ontario. During undergraduate studies, he worked with local leaders, women’s groups, and researchers in Tanzania and Kenya to investigate fermented and probiotic foods as part of a community effect to promote health and social empowerment.

Currently, Le is a PhD Candidate in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease at the University of Manitoba. His research examines the effects of a common birth control drug, called Depot Medroxyprogesterone, and its effects on the immune system. This research is conducted in collaboration with female sex workers in Nairobi, Kenya. Additionally, Toby is also actively involved in global health and was selected to represent Canadian youth at the 76th World Health Assembly and 60th Pan American Health Organization Directing Council Meeting.
