Sepita Hatami

(She/Her)

I am a cultural feminist theory/gender studies scholar and educator with a focus on how lived experience is shaped into narrative. My work draws on feminism, feminist criminology, and social justice to study testimony, life writing, and fiction across literary and media forms. I examine how experiences of harm, loss, and contested events are recorded and retold through archives, documents, and secondhand accounts, and how these narratives shape understanding, responsibility, and justice. It interrogates how narratives are constructed, contested, and authorized under conditions of extremity, particularly in relation to histories shaped by war, displacement, and criminalized violence. I also study how institutions and public policy use storytelling frameworks to interpret complex human experience and guide decision-making. My work includes journal articles, conference presentations, talks, creative writing, translations, and critical commentary.
