Dr. Samiksha Singh joined the GCRO in October 2024. She is a recipient of the International Fulbright Scholarship and earned her PhD in Environmental Science from the University of California, Riverside, where she also obtained a Designated Emphasis in Public Policy. Her doctoral research focused on the fate and transport of microplastics in freshwater and marine environments, particularly in river systems and the near-coastal areas of Southern California. In addition to her research, Samiksha's public policy efforts have concentrated on the vulnerability of low-income communities and communities of colour to microplastic exposure, emphasizing the adverse health effects related to bottled water consumption patterns in California, USA. Before pursuing her PhD, Samiksha was a senior scientist at the Institute of Natural Resources, a non-profit organization in South Africa. There, she led various aquatic biomonitoring projects, conducted environmental and social impact assessments, and collaborated on addressing environmental challenges across Africa. At the GCRO, Samiksha aims to work in the water quality sector and urban sustainability, continuing to tackle complex environmental issues through a multidisciplinary approach. Her strong commitment to sustainable practices and community well-being underpins her professional trajectory and academic endeavors, highlighting her dedication to advancing environmental science holistically.
