Reed Noss serves as Conservation Science Coordinator for the University of Florida’s Center for Landscape Conservation Planning and Chief Science Advisor for the Southeastern Grasslands Institute (Austin Peay State University). He was formerly Provost’s Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Central Florida. Noss received his M.S. in ecology from the University of Tennessee and a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology from the University of Florida. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Conservation Biology and President of the Society for Conservation Biology. He is an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 2001.
Noss’s recent research topics include landscape and regional conservation planning; grassland and forest ecology; fire ecology; ecosystem conservation and restoration; and vulnerability of species and ecosystems to climate change. He has more than 370 publications, including nine books. His most recent books are Forgotten Grasslands of the South: Natural History and Conservation (Island Press, 2012), Fire Ecology of Florida and the Southeastern Coastal Plain (University Press of Florida, 2018), and Regional Landscape Conservation Planning: Wildlife, Connectivity, and the Florida Model (University Press of Florida, in press).
