Raquel Medialdea-Carrera is a PhD student in the Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic infections in the University of Liverpool. Currently, she is based in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) doing research on Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue virus.
Raquel Medialdea-Carrera graduated in Biotechnology (BSc) from the University of Oviedo in 2013. After an Erasmus at Queens University of Belfast, she got a scholarship from the British Council to do an MSc in Translational Medicine at the University of Glasgow.
In 2014, Raquel obtained a 4-year Mres-PhD Studentship at the University of Liverpool in the Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections (HPRU EZI).
In 2015 Raquel volunteered to help to fight the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and in 2016 she moved to Brazil to help tackling the Zika and Chikungunya Virus epidemic.
Raquel's interested in improving the diagnosis of emerging zoonotic infections such as Zika and Chikungunya virus.
