Pema Düddul

Pema (birth name Dallas J. Baker) is an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New England and Engagement Project Manager at the Humanistic Buddhism Centre of Nan Tien Institute. Pema is also a creative writer with work published in a wide range of journals and anthologies, and has dozens of scholarly articles published on topics such as creative writing, the ethics of the self, and Buddhism. As an editor, Pema has worked on numerous international projects including the scholarly anthologies Publishing & Culture (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2019) and Recovering History through Fact and Fiction: Forgotten Lives (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2017). Most recently, Pema was compiler and editor of The Heroic Heart, the latest book by internationally renowned Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo (Shambhala Publishing, 2022).

Pema was the Buddhist chaplain at the University of Southern Queensland from 2019 to 2022, and is Co-Director and resident Lama of Pristine Awareness: Foundation for Buddhist Practice (www.pristine-awareness.org). Pema is an internationally recognised Buddhist teacher in the Tibetan tradition. Pema is author of a number of books on Buddhism, including Luminous Awareness: A Guidebook to Natural Awakening in Life and in Death, which includes a foreword by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Pema is also co-author, along with Rigdzin Jamyang Tenphel, of Resting in Stillness, a collection of pithy advice about meditation, compassion and Buddhist perspectives on the true nature of mind.

Pema's current research interests are Buddhist Studies, non-fiction writing (Buddhist), Buddhist notions of gender, visionary experiences in Buddhist meditation, and writer-driven publishing.
