I am a development-focused academic, strategist, and political analyst with over 20 years of professional experience spanning academia, public sector engagement, and strategic advisory. My work sits at the intersection of political economy, governance, and development practice, with a sustained commitment to translating ideas into measurable societal impact.

Currently serving as a full-time academic at Nelson Mandela University, I am a senior lecturer in South African Politics, International Political Economy, and State, Society, and Economy in Africa. My scholarly and professional mission is to cultivate a new generation of thinkers and practitioners equipped to shape the continent’s developmental trajectory.

In parallel, I serve as Acting Director of the Raymond Mhlaba Centre for Governance and Leadership, where I lead initiatives aimed at strengthening leadership capacity across the public, private, and civic sectors. A central focus of this work is the development of catalytic leadership programmes, including the Mandela-Mhlaba Fellowship for transformational leadership.

Beyond academia, I operate through Lawula Investments, providing strategic advisory, political risk analysis, and development facilitation services. My work includes feasibility studies, capital raising, and the commercialisation of innovation—particularly in collaboration with science and technology institutions to unlock economic value from intellectual property.

My leadership extends to the national discipline as President of the South African Association of Political Studies, where I am spearheading the establishment of the Chartered Political Analyst designation to professionalise political science and enhance its impact on policy and investment decision-making.

At my core, I am a development activist who believes in the power of partnerships, ideas, and capable leadership to drive structural transformation across Africa.
