Oliver Schmidtke

Oliver Schmidtke is Professor of Political Science and History at the University of Victoria, and Director of its Centre for Global Studies. He also co-leads EUCAnet (www.eucanet.org), the Europe Canada Network promoting scholarly collaboration on issues like migration, democracy, memory politics, citizenship, and nationalism. He earned his PhD from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence and has held fellowships at Harvard University, Humboldt University Berlin, the EUI, Hamburg University and the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study. A regular media commentator, he has authored or edited over 20 books/ special issues and published more than 120 academic articles and chapters. His writing bridges rigorous comparative research and public debate on transatlantic challenges.
