Melanie Janzen is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning and a Research Affiliate with the Centre for Human Rights Research at the University of Manitoba. Her areas of expertise are in curriculum theory and teacher education. Melanie's research explores the inter-related workings of power (through policy and practices), particularly as they relate to the experiences of classroom teachers and the ongoing marginalization of children. As a previous teacher for more than 15 years, she is committed to public schools, including the systemic inequities they engender, while promoting the improvement of public education systems so as to better serve the public good. Melanie is a coauthor of the recently published book, Feeling Obligated: Teaching in Neoliberal Times. She is grateful to live and work in Treaty One Territory.
