Marine Cusa is a researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), a senior policy advisor and scientist for Oceana Europe, and a Pew Marine Fellow. She works on issues pertaining to seafood traceability and transparency, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing, and the applied use of genetic tools for marine conservation. She holds a PhD from the University of Salford, Manchester where she explored, tested, and promoted methods to combat illegal fishing practices and seafood fraud with an emphasis on molecular tools. She also worked as a research assistant with the SEATRACES project at Liverpool John Moores University on traceability and labeling methods to promote sustainable seafood production.

Before this, Marine worked as a research consultant with a focus on polar marine food-webs & plastic pollution, she obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Tromsø’s Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics in 2016 where she explored some of the ecological factors that influenced the diet and feeding strategy of endemic marine fish species. Marine holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Environmental Science from the University of Toronto.
