Larissa M Straffon

My main research interests are the origins of human mind and behaviour with a special focus on visual art practices and crafts, which I see as a means to understanding cognitive and cultural evolution. My background is in archaeology, art history, and cognitive psychology. I am currently a member of the Norwegian centre of excellence Centre for Early Sapiens Behaviour SapienCE and Senior Researcher in the ERC funded project ‘Evolution of Cognitive Tools for Quantification' QUANTA, based at the University of Bergen in Norway. Until 2023 I also conducted a project at Leiden University (Netherlands) on the perception and production of visual signs in phylogeny and ontogeny, funded by The John Templeton Foundation.
