- Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Zoology, University of Otago
My research revolves around determining the relationships among different species and groups of animals as a framework for studying broader evolutionary processes, such as adaptation, convergence, dispersal, diversification, and extinction.
In particular, I focus on using "ancient DNA" to study extinct species.
Among other projects, I've been involved in the sequencing of the Tasmanian tiger (or thylacine) genome, genetic analysis of extinct short-faced kangaroos, and the identification of several undescribed (but now sadly extinct) bird species from New Zealand.
