Professor Karen Thorpe is Group Leader at the Science of Learning Centre, Queensland Brain Institute of at The University of Queensland. She completed a Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of London and a PhD in Developmental Psychology a at the University of Bristol .
Karen’s research program is in developmental science with particular interest in the effects of early childhood parental and non-parental care experiences on developmental trajectories across the lifespan. She has expertise in longitudinal research design and has delivered 5 internationally significant research cohorts including Australian longitudinal studies of early education and care. Her scholastic leadership is not only evidenced in her external grant success and high quality publications, but also translation of research outcomes into social, educational and health policy. In 2013 and again in 2019 she was named by the Australian Financial Review as among "Australia' s 100 Women of Influence" for her translation of research into public policy. She has authored over 300 research outputs including peer reviewed articles, books, book chapters and reports .
