Jules Siedenburg

Jules Siedenburg is an agricultural and environmental economist working as a researcher. His current focus is investigating the use of microalgae as innovative inputs to crop and livestock production and their scope to deliver outcomes that work for people and planet. This includes bringing together disparate existing findings, gathering empirical evidence via farm trials under real world conditions, and incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data including farmers’ voices. This work is guided by a commitment to finding actionable solutions to pressing societal problems and having concrete impact.

Jules has extensive experience as an international development consultant with expertise in small-scale agriculture and its linkages to the environment, notably climate adaptation and mitigation. His clients have included charities like CARE and Oxfam, international organisations like UNDP and UNEP, and donors like DFID and the EU. He began his career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, spending two years in a remote village working in agricultural extension. He has also lived in Ethiopia, Malta and Tanzania.
