He is currently a Senior Scientist in Disaster and Climate Risk based at Earth Sciences New Zealand in Wellington.

Since September 2024, he serves as an adjunct senior fellow at Emergency and Disaster Management Program at Charles Darwin University, Australia.

Dr Lassa has been listed as the Top Researcher [Field Leader] in Emergency Management by The Australian Research Magazine 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

He previously served as a Senior Lecturer in Disaster Management at CDU (2016-2024), a Senior Research Fellow with the Institute of Resource Governance and Social Change (IRGSC) and a Willis Research Fellow at the Institute of Catastrophe and Risk Management - NTU. He also previously held positions as a PhD researcher with the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security in Bonn (Germany) and as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Ash Center, Harvard Kennedy School (USA) (Cambridge, MA). In his professional career, he has also worked with the United Nations, international NGOs and the private sector.
