Jennifer McHenry

(she/her)

As a global change scientist, I study the impacts of climate change and other man-made drivers of change on coastal marine ecosystems, particularly kelp forests and seagrass meadows, and how predictive models, synthetic approaches, and decision science can help us decide what actions we take, from proactive management to restoration, to improve outcomes for nature and people.

A major focus of my current work is on the role that coastal "blue carbon" - the carbon that gets aborbed and stored by coastal habitats like seagrasses and kelp forests - could play in national climate mitigation and adaptation efforts.

Trained as an ecologist and a geographer, I am currently a Senior Research Fellow with the Blue Carbon Canada program (www.bluecarboncanada.ca) in the Department of Biology at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
