- Associate Professor, Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, HEC Montréal
Jean-François Harvey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at HEC Montréal and holds the Canada Research Chair in Organizational Learning. He also serves as a Senior Editor at Organization Science. His research examines how teams and leaders learn, adapt, and coordinate under conditions of uncertainty and complexity, with particular attention to the organizational design conditions—such as structures, roles, interdependencies, and temporal arrangements—that shape these processes. His academic work has been published in leading management journals, including Administrative Science Quarterly and Journal of Applied Psychology, and has been covered by major media outlets.
A growing strand of his research explores how new technologies and remote work reshape team learning and collaboration by redistributing attention, altering sensemaking processes, and reconfiguring roles and responsibilities. His work is grounded in field partnerships with public- and private-sector organizations across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Jean-François earned his PhD from HEC Montréal, was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Business School.
