Janice Mak is Associate Director of Curriculum & Pedagogy at the Learning Engineering Institute and Clinical Assistant Professor at Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation where she leads the Lab for Advancing Human-Centered Technology Futures. With over two decades of experience as a teacher, administrator, and researcher, she brings expertise in computer science education, STEM curriculum design, educational technology, and policy. Her research focuses on equitable access to computational thinking, culturally responsive pedagogy, interdisciplinary curriculum, and the ethical integration of emerging technologies such as generative AI. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and national reports.
Dr. Mak has secured and led multi-million-dollar grants funded by the National Science Foundation, Google, USAID, Spencer Foundation, and others, advancing teacher preparation, K–12 computer science and data science education, and international education partnerships. She is a sought-after keynote speaker and advisor, serving on national and international committees with the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, UNESCO, ACM, and ISTE. A former state board of education appointee and CSTA board director, she continues to shape policy and practice at the intersection of equity, ethics, and innovation in education.
