I study the world of work using qualitative methods that foreground human experience. Broadly speaking, I am interested in the role of work organisations in society and how competing demands, priorities, and value systems affect people at and around work. My recent and ongoing research has examined paradox, ambivalence, moral distress, and gossip, especially in the context of caring occupations and purpose-driven organisations. I am also interested in how qualitative research can be used to inform practice and policy improvements.
