Dr Hilton Humphries is a registered research psychologist and holds a PhD in public health. He has worked in HIV prevention research for 16 years, and is a senior research specialist at the Human Sciences Research Council. The overall aim of his research is to prevent negative sexual and reproductive health outcomes in adolescents. His focus is on understanding the ecological context in which young people live and how this affects their sexual health. His research targets three key areas, 1) understanding profiles of risk, and what biopsychosocial factors comprise these profiles, 2) the role of significant relationships for mediating risk in young women and men, and 3) what influences sexual health intervention effectiveness. Dr Humphries is also a member of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Biomedical Ethics Committee, and an honorary lecturer in psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
