- Senior Lecturer in Science Communication, The University of Western Australia
Dr Heather Bray is a Senior Lecturer in Science Communication, and Coordinator of the Master of Science Communication at the University of Western Australia. Dr Bray teaches across a range of science communication topics, building on her background as a professional science communicator working in science centres and for agricultural research centres, developing community engagement programs about complex and controversial technologies. She is an active member of Australian Science Communicators.
Dr Bray's research interests are broad, but at the core she is interested in broadening the 'social conversation about science' to be more inclusive of those who have been excluded. Most recently her focus was on community understandings of, and attitudes to, the role of science and technology in food production, with a focus on gene technology and farm animal welfare. Dr Bray's background is in agricultural science and she has worked as an animal scientist in both Australia and the Netherlands.
