Fabio Andrés Díaz Pabón

  • Honorary Research Associate, Department of Political and International Studies, Rhodes University

Scholar of Conflict, International Security and Development with a interdisciplinary background in Industrial Engineering and Systems Dynamics.

My current research is interested in exploring how emerging technologies, geopolitical competition and systemic risks shape security politics and development trajectories in the Global South. Doctor in Development Studies. Scholar and senior lecturer specialising in comparative politics, conflict, development and governance in Africa and Latin America. My research engages on how political, economic, and technology shape development trajectories dynamics in the Global South through a comparative lens. Methodologically, I combine qualitative and quantitative approaches, including comparative analysis, political economy, and applied policy research. Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience across multiple political systems, including large cohort and small-cohort teaching and course coordination of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Colombia, the Netherlands, and Southern Africa from the global north and the global south.

Recent publications include a forthcoming monograph with Palgrave on conflict and discontent in South Africa and Colombia, as well as publications regarding Agenda 2063 (Africa’s development agenda); regularly published in various specialized online publications on topics related to development, as well as in media outlets such as Al Jazeera, Time, Los Angeles Times, The Conversation, among others. Some of my writings have been translated to different languages including Chinese, Spanish, French, German, and Serbo-Croatian.
