Tori Sprung is a Reader in Clinical Exercise Physiology at Liverpool John Moores University. Her research focuses on women’s health across the lifespan, encompassing areas such as inflammatory conditions (including rheumatoid arthritis), pregnancy, and fertility. She also holds an Honorary Research Fellowship at the University of Liverpool, contributing to wider research in exercise physiology and public health. By integrating physiological, clinical, and patient-centred perspectives, she works collaboratively with healthcare professionals and policymakers to support the effective integration of exercise into care pathways. She is committed to translating evidence into practice to improve access, engagement, and outcomes for diverse patient groups.
With a PhD from LJMU and executive education in Organisational Leadership from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, she combines academic expertise with strategic leadership. She serves as the Strategic Lead for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the School of Sport & Exercise Sciences and has chaired the School’s RIDE (Respect, Inclusion, Diversity & Equity) Panel since its formation in 2020. Nationally, she represents EDI efforts as a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) EDI Advisory Group, advocating for inclusive practices that enhance both culture and performance.
She also co-leads institutional work aligned with the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, helping to foster a research culture and environment in which individuals at all stages of their careers can thrive.
Beyond academia, she is committed to supporting equality in science and contributing to her local community. She is involved in initiatives aimed at increasing the representation of underrepresented groups in STEMM and is a regular volunteer at her local Junior Parkrun on Sunday mornings.
