- Adjunct Research Fellow of The Cairns Institute, James Cook University
My main research interest is how science fiction provides a lens through which to focus on human interests and social trends, including how science fiction enables research to engage with the public. I apply digital tools to the extraction and analysis of text to add depth to qualitative and quantitative interpretation and also employ attitude and experience surveys and statistical analysis to support the inferences and themes that my research has uncovered. These have significance in the fields of sociology and psychology of fiction. I have broad interests in social psychology, history and philosophy of science, English literature, and education - especially access and inclusion. I also write science fiction, which is published on Amazon for Kindle.
