- Research Fellow, Iverson Health Innovation Research Institute, Swinburne University of Technology
Dr Christian Brakenridge is a research fellow at the Iverson Health Innovation Research Institute within the Computational Biology and Biophysics theme.
His work focuses on 24-hour behaviours (sitting, standing, physical activity, and sleep) and cardiometabolic health.
Following a career as an accredited exercise physiologist, Christian completed his PhD at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
Thereafter, he successfully attained an Academy of Finland research grant which supported a post-doctoral research fellowship in Finland, Mikkeli with the South-eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences’ Active Life Lab. This continuing Finnish-Australian collaboration aims to identify how muscle activity can be modified to counter the adverse cardiometabolic effects of sitting in people with type 2 diabetes.
He is currently apart of multiple clinical trials and observational studies involving the use of wearable sensors to measure behaviour and health, not limited to research grade accelerometers, commercial wearable fitness trackers, continuous glucose monitors, clothing embedded with electromyography, and ambulatory blood pressure monitors.
Christian has recently received considerable national and international attention for his evidence outlining the optimal 24-hour time use of sitting, standing, physical activity and sleep for cardiometabolic health.
