Chikezie E. Uzuegbunam

Chikezie E. Uzuegbunam is a senior lecturer, MA programme coordinator, Deputy Head of School, and chair of the Research Forum at Rhodes University’s School of Journalism and Media Studies. He is a rated researcher by the National Research Foundation of South Africa. Dr Uzuegbunam holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Cape Town and multiple degrees in Mass Communication from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria. Dr. Uzuegbunam was an inaugural Carnegie Fellow at the Institute for Humanities in Africa (HUMA) and has held similar other fellowships, such as ASA/Carnegie Fellow for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024), as well as Global Fellow at Northwestern University's Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South in Qatar (2024-2025). He has published dozens of peer-reviewed works on topics like digital culture, children and youth, cultural studies, generative AI, and misinformation. He is the author of three books, Children and Young People’s Digital Lifeworlds: Domestication, Mediation and Agency (2024, Springer Nature), Navigating Trauma in African Journalism, Volumes 1 and 2 (2025, Palgrave Macmillan).
