Bachelor's Degrees in Hispanic Philology (1995) and Linguistics (1997), and PhD in Linguistics (2002). University Professor of General Linguistics at the University of Cadiz. My research primarily focuses on the neurocognitive aspects of language processing and clinical linguistics. Over the past decades, I have addressed key challenges in Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics, including lexical relations, language production and comprehension phenomena, language disorders, and the mental/cerebral configuration of lexical meaning. I recently led the Excellence Project (Consolidated Challenge) "Longitudinal psycholinguistic study of children with low prevalence chromosomopathies" (Andalusian Plan for Research, Development and Innovation, 2020-23), with findings published in the prestigious American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) journal, as well as in other top-tier journals such as Oralia (DICE, CARHUS PLUS+) and Revista de Logopedia, Foniatría y Audiología (AELFA) (SJR/Scopus Q3). Furthermore, I am currently Principal Investigator (PI) of the Bridge Project "Longitudinal and cross-sectional neurocognitive study of acoustic-perceptual abilities and linguistic function in preterm infants," funded by the University of Cadiz to improve proposals for the State Plan (UCA/R209REC/2023). My scientific output comprises over seventy publications (books, book chapters and contributions to scientific journals), most of which are top-tier, indexed in the first quartiles of SJR, JCR or FECYT, with publishers ranked in the first or second quartile of the SPI indicator for "Linguistics, Literature, Philology". My research excellence is evidenced by four accredited six-year research periods (24 years of certified research activity, CNEAI accredited, most recently 2017-2022) and five regional research complements. I am a member of the excellence research group "Semaínein" (achieving maximum scores in all PAI calls), which has received multiple awards for research excellence and knowledge transfer, and was recently recognised as one of the scientific milestones in the University of Cádiz's 40-year history. I have led four competitive research projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and five knowledge transfer contracts with various institutions. I participate in several national and international research teams, including NEOROC, SEMyLÉX Group, PRESEEA, the "Hispanic World School Lexical Availability Project", and the international COFFEE project (561812-EPP-1-2015-1-FR-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP). I was a member of the Promoter Commission of the University Research Institute of Applied Linguistics (ILA) and have acted as its Secretary since its establishment (2014). I am also a member of its Permanent Commission and coordinate the Experimental Linguistics Laboratory. I have presented at over forty national and international conferences at prestigious universities worldwide (Leipzig, Roma Tre, Heidelberg, King's College London, La Sapienza, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Zürich, Genova, Coimbra, etc.). I have completed funded research stays at renowned institutions including the Universities of Cambridge, Free University of Berlin, Catholic University of Leuven, and IUSS Pavia. Since 2004, I have served on the Editorial Board of Pragmalingüística (FECYT quality seal, JCR Q2 2022), since 2018, on the Editorial Board of Estudios de lingüística aplicada Collection (CEA-APQ seal), and since 2022, on the Editorial Board of Tèrminalia. I am a member of the Scientific Council of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA) and regularly review articles for prestigious journals (Language and Communication, Signos, RILCE,…).
