I call myself a viroinformatician: a molecular virologist trained in ‘amics (phylodynamics) and ‘omics (genomics, transcriotpmics, metagenomics). I am originally from Italy, I obtain my BA and MSc in biotechnology applied to immunology at the University of Padova. I moved to Spain to obtain my Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of Madrid studying evolution and immunomodulation of poxviruses. I then moved again to Florida, and joined Dr. Maureen Goodenow’s lab at University of Florida as a PostDoctoral traineed. Here I was introduced to the HIV biomedical field. Two years later, I joined Dr. Marco Salemi’s lab to expand my knowledge in evolutionary biology of HIV and other pathogens. Currently, I’m an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Pathology and my research focuses on many reservoirs: SIV/HIV, Vibrio cholera and lately SARS-CoV-2. I am also interested in phylodynamics of arboviruses such as Zika, Dengue or Chikungunya viruses.
