- PhD Candidate, Ecotoxicology, Plymouth Marine Laboratory
Anneliese has a first-class honors BSc degree in Environmental Science, a distinction Master of Research (MRes) degree in Marine Biology and is currently undertaking her PhD in Biological Science within the field of Marine Ecotoxicology at the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Marine Laboratory. Her MRes focused on the effects of sunscreen chemicals on marine macroalgae, and her PhD adopts a multidisciplinary approach to elucidate the effects and mechanisms of which sunscreens and ultraviolet (UV) filters can effect marine organisms. Her research aims to quantify the potential of sunscreen chemicals to bioaccumulate and biomagnify within the food-chain. Anneliese is a professional member of the Marine Biological Association and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, a full member of the Royal Society of Biology and a full member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She has attended both national and international conferences to present her research, has spoken on podcasts and has written for several popular science magazines/platforms to discuss the impact of sunscreens on the marine environment. She also has experience of working in industry within the field of ecotoxicology, incorporating environmental fate, water quality and pharmaceutical analysis.
