Anne Tiedemann

Professor Anne Tiedemann (PhD, BSc, Grad Dip Sci) is an expert on the development, evaluation and implementation of evidence-based physical activity strategies to prevent falls and promote independence in older age. She is a Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, School of Public Health, The University of Sydney.

Professor Tiedemann leads a program of research focused on physical activity for healthy ageing and fall prevention. She has a background in Exercise Physiology, and completed her PhD in Public Health at the University of New South Wales in 2007. Professor Tiedemann's 183 peer reviewed publications have been cited over 34000 times and she has been awarded over $27 million in competitive grant funding. In 2016 Professor Tiedemann received an NHMRC Research Excellence Award and in 2017 she received the Sydney Research Awards, Young Researcher Award.

Professor Tiedemann was on the development committee for the World Health Organization 2020 Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines. She is on the Executive Committee for the World Falls Prevention Society and is Associate Editor for the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.

Professor Tiedemann is passionate about research dissemination and is driven by her goal of improving the lives of all people through increased physical activity. The impact of her research is maximised by regular media appearances, contribution to clinical guidelines, conferences and public science communication and delivery of health professional education.
