Professor Andrew Phiri's expertise is in macroeconomics, applied econometrics, financial economics, monetary economics and international economics.

Professor Phiri has authored over 100 academic articles on economics.

His articles published in 2024 alone include topics ranging from returns and volatility spillovers in cryptocurrency markets; climate finance and women-hunger alleviation in the global south; the connectedness between (un)conventional monetary policy and Islamic and advanced equity markets; the potential of foreign direct investment in mitigating carbon emissions in African states; the effect of loadshedding on the housing market in South Africa, and an analysis of the income gap-gender inequality nexus in Africa using bi-wavelet and partial wavelet coherence analysis.
