Andrea Vaccaro is a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI). Prior to his current role, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and a visiting researcher at the World Institute for Development Economics Research, United Nations University (UNU-WIDER).

His research interests lie at the crossroads of comparative politics and global development. He studies how strong states with democratic institutions are built, how they affect development outcomes, what is the role of international cooperation therein, and how the concepts central to these questions are defined and measured. His work has been published by leading presses such as Oxford University Press and journals such as Contemporary Politics, European Political Science, Development Policy Review, and World Development.

He holds a PhD from Sapienza University of Rome.
