Amy Shelver is an academic, creative industry activist, and a researcher with over 13 years’ experience in media, communications, development, research and management. She has a particularly strong practice-based know-how at the nexus of media, development and the creative economy. She has distinction degrees in Journalism, Anthropology and Psychology, an honours degree cum laude in Anthropology and a Masters in Development Studies. She is currently reading for her PhD in Art History at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on public art, urban design and the township economy. She is interested in the creative economy, the cultural and creative industries, city and urban spaces, cooperatives, industrial and community development, media, technology and the youth.
