Zeynep Şahin-Mencütek works as a Senior Researcher at the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies. She has been a Research Affiliate with the Canadian Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University. She has held a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (June 2020–May 2021) and an international fellowship at the Centre for Global Cooperation Research in Duisburg (2019–2020). She coordinated the Horizon Europe GAPs project (2023-26) and is currently the holder of an ERC Consolidator Grant (2026-31). Her research centres on questions of responsibility in the governance of migration. Her scientific work has appeared in leading international peer-reviewed migration journals. In addition to numerous book chapters, she is the author of Refugee Governance, State and Politics in the Middle East (Routledge, 2018) as well as co-author of Syrian Refugees in Turkey (IMISCOE Research Series, 2023) and co-editor of Migration and Cities (IMISCOE Research Series, 2024). She is the associate editor of journals of Migration Studies and Comparative Migration.
