- Kiwirrkurra Traditional Owner, Indigenous Knowledge
Yukultji Napangati Ward is an Indigenous Knowledge Holder from the Kiwirrkurra community in remote WA. She grew up in the sandhills of the great sandy desert west of Lake Mackay until she was 15, digging for water in soakages and eating goannas, feral cats, witchetty grubs and native seeds and berries. It wasn’t until 1984 that her family, now known as the Pintupi 9, left their traditional nomadic existence and moved into the newly established community of Kiwirrkurra. Yukultji is senior ranger with the Kiwirrkurra Rangers and a well-known artist.
