Youdiil Ophinni is a physician and virologist at Kyoto University, where he now works as Assistant Professor at The Hakubi Center for Advanced Research and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. He earned his MD from Universitas Indonesia (2011) and his PhD in vaccinology from Kobe University (2018), then worked on T cell immunotherapy at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard.
His research spans from basic and clinical science to environmental and Indonesian area studies. He conducted gene editing research to cure HIV and clinical research on chronic viral infections, and now focuses on more-than-human health and area genomics at Indonesia's human–animal–environment interface. He holds affiliated appointments at Kobe University's Center for Infectious Diseases and Osaka University's Immunology Frontier Research Center. He previously worked at the HIV Integrated Service Unit, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta.
