- ERC Postdoctoral Fellow, Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Yohannes holds a PhD in International Human Rights Law at the Faculty of Law, Monash University in Australia. Prior to joining Monash Law, he was a lecturer in law at School of Law, Bahir Dar University where he was teaching and researching on media law and human rights.
His PhD research explored the question of balancing privacy and freedom of expression in the digital age. In doing so, it examined the ways in which the balance between freedom of expression and privacy is shaped by the communal conception of human rights within the African human rights system, the unique dynamics of the Internet and online communication and selected contexts (publication of personal information and the right to be forgotten) on the Internet. His research interest spans the areas of human rights in the digital age, law and technology, media law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL).
