Dr. Yakup Niyazi is a Marine Geoscientist and Hydrographic Surveyor at the Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre, University of Western Australia. He holds an MSc in Marine Geoscience from the University of Haifa, Israel, awarded cum laude, and a PhD from Deakin University, Australia, where his research focused on magmatic and fluid plumbing systems in offshore basins of southeastern Australia.
Currently, his research focuses on seafloor mapping using acoustic imaging techniques and integrates expertise in geomorphology, geology, and geophysics to investigate the formation and evolution of submarine landforms, their regional and global significance, and influence on oceanographic and ecological processes.
Yakup’s work has earned him several recognitions, including the Carlos Walter M. Campos Memorial Award (AAPG, 2018) and participation in the Eureka Prize-winning Deakin Marine Mapping Group (2020).
