Woubet Kassa is an economist at the World Bank Group working on trade, macroeconomics, structural transformation, and industrial policy in developing economies. His research examines how countries integrate into global and regional markets, how changes in trade and the global economic environment shape development outcomes, and how economies build the productive capabilities needed for sustained growth and structural transformation.
His recent work includes Integrating Africa: From Threads to Hubs, research on green-transition minerals, and work on the design and effectiveness of industrial policy in developing economies. He is based in Washington, DC, and occasionally teaches at American University. His research has appeared in the IMF Economic Review, Journal of African Economies, The World Economy, Global Policy, and Food Policy, as well as in several World Bank flagship and book-length studies.
