W. Y. Alice Chan

W. Y. Alice Chan, PhD, is Executive Director and co-founder of the Centre for Civic Religious Literacy, a Canadian non-profit that promotes understanding about religious, spiritual, and non-religious peoples. Her publications include "Teaching Religious Literacy to Combat Religious Bullying: Insights from North American Secondary Schools" (2021), "Equipping Educators to Teach Religious Literacy: Lessons from a Teacher Education Program in the American South" (2022), and publications in Religion and Education, Journal of Beliefs and Values, and for the UNESCO-MGIEP. Her teaching includes undergraduate courses as McGill University, and graduate courses at OISE/University of Toronto and Mary Immaculate College in Ireland.

She has been a guest speaker at the US Department of Education’s Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, and an invited delegate at the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s 2nd Conference on Interfaith Dialogue. She has a background in Sociology, Economics, and Education. As a Third-Party Neutral practitioner certified by the Canadian Institute of Conflict Resolution, she promotes balance, dialogue, and understanding in her work to promote religious literacy.
