- Associate Professor (Molecular Virology), Monash University
Dr. Vinod Balasubramaniam is a trained molecular virologist, currently an Associate Professor at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Vinod obtained his PhD from Monash University and completed his postdoctoral training in Infectomics of Influenza and Flaviviruses at the Department of Microbiology, Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital, New York under the world renowned Prof. Adolfo Garcia Sastre. He has established his own research niche focusing on “crosstalk between host cellular factors and viruses”, specifically, how host cells interact and the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathophysiologic process of virus infection, especially RNA viruses with pandemic potential” (Influenza, Coronavirus, ZIKA, Dengue, Chikungunya and Enteroviruses). Insights into the host's responses to viruses would help define targets for therapeutic intervention. Dr. Vinod has published in various high impact journals in areas of infectious disease pathogenesis, vaccines, therapeutics and has been awarded various external grants from Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and UK universities.
