Viktor Doychinov

(He/him)

I am an RF and microwave engineer with a passion for all things science and technology. My main interests are in the application and use of wireless communications and wireless hardware for resource-constrained environments, such as satellites, robotics, and implanted and wearable medical technology.

I have solid, fundamental understanding of the key principles of RF and microwave circuit and component design, manufacture, and associated test and measurement. I have practical experience in, among others:

- Transmitter and receiver system design, including antennas and antenna arrays
- Mixer and amplifier design, development, simulation and measurement
- Circuit and system CAD and full-wave EM modelling and simulation
- Biological tissue measurement
- Analog and embedded electronics.
- RF propagation modelling and simulation using open-source software
- Satellite mission design using STK and GMAT

My research interests are in the broad field of wireless communications and wireless electronics, particularly in the context of satellite communications. Particular projects and topics I am currently working on and interested in are:

- Developing millimetre-wave transceiver hardware for nanosatellites
- Investigating the feasibility of mesh networks at millimetre-wave frequencies for robotics and satellite applications
- Use of COTS hardware for communication link impairments emulation
- Simultaneous communication and sensing

Another area of interest for me is in the application of free and open source tools and frameworks in the hardware and software development of nanosatellites, such as PocketQubes and CubeSats.

I also have a soft spot for outreach, public engagement, and volunteering, and try and get involved with as many of the wonderful opportunities in the Leeds City Region as possible. I have previously collaborated with Leeds City Libraries on an RAEng Ingenious grant, and have exhibited multiple times at Bradford Science Festival and New Scientist Live.
