Viktor Černý is a senior researcher at the Institute of Archaeology in Prague, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic and professor at the Department of Anthropology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Sciences, Charles University in Prague. He obtained his PhD at the University of Bordeaux 1 in France in 1999 and a year later founded the archaeogenetics laboratory at the Institute of Archaeology in Prague, Czech Republic.

His main interest lies in the prehistory of Africa and western Eurasia. He specializes in biocultural contacts of groups, like the Sahel's settled farmers and nomadic pastoralists. He is the author or co-author of some sixty papers in specialised journals for biological anthropology and evolutionary genetics.
