Dr Victoria Silverwood is the co-founder and Director of Swansea Centre of Research in Sport & Society and a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Swansea University.
Following a career in criminal defence law, Victoria returned to university in order to complete an ESRC-funded PhD in Socio-Legal Studies. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Swansea University and the Programme Director for the MA Applied Criminal Justice and Criminology degree.
She is an avid fan of ice hockey and has spent 18 years researching the culture and practice of violence in sport, with a particular focus on legitimate violence in ice hockey. In addition to her academic publications on the topic, Victoria is a regular contributor to the media on topics of violence in harm in sport and has featured in the 2016 documentary Ice Guardians. She was an invited speaker at The Hay literary festival in May 2023..
In 2023 Victoria co-founded SCORSS - The Swansea Centre of Research in Sport & Society.
Victoria is an advocate for player safety in sport and is a member of Progressive Rugby, advocating for awareness about head injuries and concussion in sport.
