Dr Vassilis Galanos, SFHEA is a Lecturer in Digital Work at the Stirling Business School, University of Stirling. Vassilis is a historical sociologist of artificial intelligence and the internet, with a key interest in the intersection of expectations and expertise during different rounds of digital technology development. Vassilis's recent work examines the relationship between digital metaphors deployed in different strata of discourse and the development of strategic or unintentional hype - and their discontents.

Vassilis has been co-leading multiple initiatives such as the international Hype Studies group, the UK AI Ethics & Society network, the HaPoC Data Sharing Group while collaborating with the Centre for Research Into Surveillance and Privacy (CRISP) and We and AI - previously partnering with BRAID UK, the Edinburgh Futures Institute's Data Civics, and the New Real. Vassilis serves as Associate Editor for Technology Analaysis and Strategic Management (Taylor & Francis), and together with James K Stewart is the author of the forthcoming book Internet, AI, and Society: A Textbook for the Perplexed (Wiley Blackwell, Inc). Abstains from meat and pronouns and has once jammed with the Sun Ra Arkestra.
