Umair Asif is a PhD candidate in the Interdisciplinary Doctorate in Health and Society program at Université du Québec à Montréal. His research and professional focus centers on Sports for Development and Peace (SDP) and Violent Extremism Prevention. Umair is also a scientific committee member for the UNESCO Chair on Sport for Development, Peace, and Environment.
Umair holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management from Seoul National University, South Korea. He is also a board member of UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Youth and Sport Task Force, where he contributes to shaping policy and initiatives for youth engagement and sport development in the region.
With extensive experience in academia and social impact, Umair has worked as a university lecturer, supervised undergraduate research, and advised numerous student societies. He is the Founder and former Executive Director of the Kafka Welfare Organization in Pakistan, where he led initiatives aimed at community development and youth empowerment. He also led a three-year (2013-2015) peace campaign to prevent violent extremism among youth in Pakistan.
Umair has contributed to the United Nations High-Level Youth Group on Sports and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) and has been actively involved with several international organizations in these areas.
His contributions have been recognized through multiple awards, including the Best Practices Award 2019, Best Thesis Award 2017, Make a Difference Award 2013, and the Hero of Pakistan title in 2013. These honors reflect his dedication to using sport as a tool for positive social change.
