(He/Him)

I am Dr. Turnwait Otu Michael, a Sociologist, Demographer, and Population Health Researcher with a PhD in Sociology (Demography) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. I currently serve as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Over the past decade, I have worked across academia, policy, and development research in sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on population dynamics, social determinants of health, reproductive and maternal health, gender-based violence, and migration studies. I have held positions as Lecturer at Hallmark University (Nigeria), Technical Analyst on the Presidential Health Sector Reform Committee, and Research Consultant to the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC). I have authored extensive peer-reviewed journal articles and several policy briefs, book chapters, and working papers with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS Sussex) and other partners. I serve on editorial boards for BMC Reproductive Health, PLOS ONE, and Health Services Insights (SAGE). My research and professional practice combine sociology, demography, and health policy analysis to advance evidence-based interventions for gender equality, reproductive justice, and population wellbeing across Africa.
